This series of work is a testament to the interplay of Death in various religions. I constructed my belief in Death by creating artifacts inspired by ancient history and studying artifact-making. These artifacts are a fusion of my research and interpretation of the afterlife. For instance, in Sl5, I pay homage to the funerary temple of Hatshepsut. This temple, in accordance with my belief that our souls are released upon Death and our bodies return to the earth through the ocean, houses earthly possessions to accompany our souls into the afterlife.
The Bronze Shade (incorporated in SI 2, 3, & 9) as divinity within historical religious art is often portrayed with precious metals. Ornamental Elements such as dried flowers (SI 5, 10, 12) decorate the pieces, as they reflect an aspect of nature that has been paused in its decomposition process, illustrating human fear and our desire to escape death. SI 13 are stills of a performance of a model interacting with SI 12, wearing SI 2, continuously scooping dried flowers onto the shelves, expressing reverence as a priestess.
